| | generation gap- anyone with such funny incident?? | | Most of us have come across the words "generation gap" and have experienced it whether be it with our children or our elders - but what I am now relating is probably very funny and may be even you have had similar experiences.
I always like to listen to old good songs from the 1960s - what they call the 'evergreens' and whenever I listened to them my children would turn their face and say that I do not have an ear for good music!!! My favourite songs are of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Jim Reeves, Pat Boone, Dean Martin, Harry Belafonte, Tom Jones, Connie Francis,( I could name so many but no place here!!!) and many others of that time who used to sing very good slow and fast songs. Any way what I wanted to tell you- I was hearing "Rambling Rose" by Nat King Cole & " Billy Bayou" by Jim Reeves - and as usual my children started making fun of my songs. So I did not say anything but I copied those songs on to a CD and kept it in the car & removed the other music CDs from the car and kept them home, so that when my children took the car out they had no choice but to listen to my choice!! A little mean of me but that was the only way I could get them to listen I hoped. And guess... | |
| | Old Movies | | I love to settle back in my living room and watch a good old movie that was made way before I was even born. These are movies that most people are shocked that I know anything about. They star classic stars like Dean Martin, Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Gene Kelly and Judy Garland. That is why I am thankful for channels like TCM who show these classic movies, even though there are times when they spend weeks only showing heavy dramas which I don't watch because I prefer comedies and musicals. My cousin once asked me why would I want to watch a movie that is in black and white, "it's boring." It makes me wonder how many people don't watch a movie because it's black and white or was made a few decades before they were born. Does anyone else enjoy the classics? | |
| | Old Comedy Movies | | Here is a list of old movies that I would recommend. Texas Across the River. It is a comedy about the old west. Starring Dean Martin, Joey Bishop. I remember watching this movie when I was about 15 years old and it was so funny. Some Like it Hot. A comedy starring Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Picture Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis disguised as women. Funny movie. It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. Another comedy about group of people on mad chase to be the first to find a large sum of money. The all-star cast includes Jimmy Durante, Milton Berle,Buddy Hacket, Ethel Merman, Sid Caesar and Spencer Tracy, just to name a few. It is a hilarious movie and fun to watch. What are some of your favorite old comedy movies?

| | What about Harris Lillis "Bing" Crosby? Other than Elvis or MJ on real king. | | When the discussion for who is the real King of Music ( Elvis or MJ ) still raging, how about Harris Lillis "Bing" Crosby who did Vocal, traditional pop and Jazz who dominated both music and film worlds much before Elvis and MJ captured hearts of millions of Americans and was third most popular actor of all time beside Clark Gable and John Wayne and his most popular movie White Christmas released in 1954 shattered box office with a whopping $30 million. Bing Crosby inspired many male singers including likes of Frank Sinatra,Perry Como and Dean Martin. "I surrender Dear", "Wrap your troubles in Dreams" mega hits of 1930's after his first hit "Ol' Man River" a Jazz influenced rendition in the year 1928. So Bing was King in that era. His records sold an estimated sale of 500 Million next to Beattles and Elvis of one billion plus.MJ's songs stood at 750 million. He was successful both as actor and singer. He also lifted the morale of American GI during World War-II as quoted by Yank Magazine and declared him "Most admired Man alive" in 1948 polls. So any one can compare now all the three ( Bing Crosby,Elvis and MJ) to give your opinion on the above subject? | |
| | Another Entertainer Dies from the 70's | | Comedian Fred Travelena died at the age of 66 from cancer. So it looks like the deaths in Hollywood are continuing. | |
| | The things you see on children's programs! | | I just had the laugh of my life while watching Wonder Pets![em]lol[/em]I'm babysitting two of my grandchildren this afternoon and Wonder Pets is one of my 3 year old grandson's favorites so, naturally, I turned it on. I've seen this show once or twice and it's cute...very musical. In today's episode the Wonder Pets had to save the day for a trio of rats who were going to perform in Las Vegas.Ok, here's where I'm dating myself because I recognized those rats! There were two white ones and one brown one. During their songs they identified themselves as Blue Eyes, Dino and Sammy. They were Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr...better known back in the day as The Rat Pack. That was their name on this show, too. Now, I was a little kid when they were hot but I remember them well and haven't thought about them in years. I don't know how old the writers of this show are but at least one of them has got to be in his 60's! It was just too funny![em]thumbup[/em]Back when my kis were little I noticed that quite a few of the skits and jokes on Sesame Street referenced events or people that parents watching would recognize. Personally, I think it's a great idea...it... | |
