| | If you have 10 percent of survival against Cancer will you take it? | | My dad asked me this once because it happened to their family before. And my mom and dad were arguing about it. My dad is an American and my mom is a Filipina. They have different perpectives about things maybe because of they have different upbringing and culture. And then they asked us, their kids about it.My first answer eight years ago was NO. I was really young, lazy, naive, and all of those kids way of thinking (HA, HA, HA) and now If I will be ask again, I think it is a YES. For me, saying NO is the easy way out of that problem. I could just not fight and go to that beautiful place. Years later, I have realized that there are more in life that I can be excited about, I want to experience and fight for. I guess Mrs. Gump was right... "Life is like a box of chocolates. You'll never know whatcha gonna get..." | |
| | Survival instinct | | Life is a constant struggle against odds. How do you deal with adversity? Do you feel depressed and helpless or you are able to find ways to bounce back? The last two years have been the most challenging period of my life. I quit a full time job to take up a career in freelance writing. The road ahead is bumpy for sure but I hope to find my goal- financial freedom. I might be taking baby steps but they are in the right direction I would like to believe! I suppose having faith in one's abilities is the most important requisite to succeed in life... | |
| | | Survival Skills Should Be REQUIRED Learning Throughout School K-12 | | What are your thoughts on this? Should survival skills be an ongoing REQUIRED course throughout our basic education system, K-12? When you think about it, our government requires us to learn subjects such as English Grammar and Composition, Mathematics, Science, and History...but what about the BASICS that we need in order to SURVIVE, such as how to obtain clean drinking water, build shelter, build a proper fire, make clothing and shoes, defend ourselves from predators, prepare for natural disasters, and how to grow plants for food and/or be able to identify plants that are safe to eat? These are very basic essentials that MOST people, sadly and truly, MOST people do not know how to do! If we did add survival skills as a course in school, in my opinion it should NOT be considered an "elective" (like Home Economics, which in my opinion, should also be required) -- it is a necessity! One of the strongest factors to consider is: What happens to people during catastrophes, such as Hurricane Katrina, when they don't know the first thing about... | |
| | What does everyone keep in their survival kits? | | We always just had a general first aid kit when I was growing up with things like gauze and bandaids and antiseptic in it, but recently I was reading about how that's not enough and there are other things you should include ( http://www.1800prepare.com/ ), and it got me thinking, what do I actually need?So I wanted to ask other people what they keep in theirs. I don't want to get stuff that I will never need, but at the same time I don't want to need something and not have it.So what do you guys keep in your survival or disaster kits? Food? first aid supplies? Anti bacterial gel? Flares? Water purifying tools?I'm confused. Thanks!y! One of the strongest factors to consider is: What happens to people during catastrophes, such as Hurricane Katrina, when they don't know the first thing about survival? They begin to steal from others, kill, destroy, become violent...they panic. Can't we avoid this type of destructive fallout by requiring Survival Skills to be taught throughout school? And I don't just mean one class in 5th grade, or 10th grade. I mean throughout school -- such as every year, or... | |
