pilgrim fathers
Most of us are aware that the Pllgrim Fathers set out from Plymouth England in the Mayflower what I bet most us (maybe US colleagues are the exception) are unaware that the original 102 Pilgrim Fathers started their journey near here in Retford (http/:www.retfordpilgrimfathersorigins). People may also be unaware that this group of people thought England was becoming very ungodly, were persecuted for their beliefs and thought that North America was unpopulated except for a few 'savages' therefore safe. It is likely they were closely associated with Methodism because the founder of Methodism, John Wesley, lived also near here in Epworth - a village about 15 miles from Reford and about 5 miles from me here in Misterton. I suspect that may be a reason why the main religion in the US is Calvinism rather than say Roman Catholicism. I would love to learn what others know about this and how well known Retford in particular is I didn't know any of this until I moved here 10 years ago and I'm English!
Could all these great men have been wrong?
Today, we have many that criticize the Bible and try to make it appear as just another book. But notice what some of the greatest men that have ever lived had to say about the Bible.“It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible . . . He is worse than an infidel who does not read his Bible and acknowledge his obligation to God.” George Washington (The first president of the United States of America) “I believe the Bible is the best gift God has ever given to man.” “I am profitably engaged in reading the Bible. Take all of this Book upon reason that you can, and the balance by faith, and you will live and die a better man.” Abraham Lincoln (The 16th president of the United States of America) “The Bible is stamped with a Specialty of Origin, and an immeasurable distance separates it from all competitors.” “I have known ninety-five great men of the world in my time and of these, eighty-seven were all followers of the Bible.” William E. Gladstone (The 19th-century British statesman)“The Bible is worth all other books which have ever been printed.” Patrick Henry (The 18th-century American statesman ) “The Bible is no mere book, but a Living...
How God works
God works in different ways among His precious children. He is a God of uniqueness and creativity. The way He worked in the life of John Wesley is different from the ways He worked in the lives of Dwight Moody and Charles Spurgeon. God deals with us in different ways. We cannot alwaya insist upon other christians what we personally experienced with God. God moves in various mysterious ways. Sometimes He moves in a dramatic way while there are times He is passive. There are times He is silent. For an instance when experiencing the infilling of the Holy Spirit, God manifests Himself in various ways. There is a time that He aill make you cry uncontrollably, after that He will allow you to experience an ecstatic joy. That is exactly what I experienced during one inatsnce I was mightily filled with the Holy Spirit. Or He will choose to reveal Himself to you gradually while you are serving Him.What can you say about this? Can you share your experience with God's move in your life?

What Happend in History on January 11th?
1908 Theodore Roosevelt makes Grand Canyon a national monument. On January 11, 1908 U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt declares the massive Grand Canyon in northwestern Arizona a national monument. Though Native Americans lived in the area as early as the 13th century, the first European sighting of the canyon wasn't unil 1540, by members of an expedition headed by the Spanish explorer Francisco Vasques de Coronado. Because of its remote and inaccessible location, several centuries passed before North American settlers really explored the canyon. In 1869, geologist John Wesley Powell led a group of 10 men in the first dificult journey down the rapids of the Colorado River and along the length of the 277 mile gorge in four rowboats. By the end of the 19th century, the Grand Canyoj was attracting thousands fo toursits each year. One famous visitor was President Theodore Roosevelt, a New Yorker with a particula affection for the American West. Elected in 1901, Roosevelt made environmental conservation a major part of his presidency. After establishing the National Wildlife Refuge to protect the country's animals, fish and birds, Roosevelt turned his attention to federal regulation...
London, England
I lived in London for three months although I am American. I love all of the historical things that I found there. Since I am a Christian, I was interested in places such as John Wesley's home and church with the cemetery across the street. Now, I can visualize some of the things that I know about him.I attended several church services while in London and learned quite a lot about the differences between US church and the services there. The double deck buses are exciting, the visits to Buckingham Palace, and various museums are astonding, especially the changing of the guard ceremony. I loved walking across Tower Bridge and to where the Queen's jewels are stored. The evidences of the World War are still very visible and cause one to think about the suffering that happened there.I love the place. There is one element of London that I don't like, however. I was there from July to November. Even on the hottest day, people wore sweaters. On the hottest night, we used the fireplace to keep warm. The place is so COLD!! I'm referring to the weather. The people themselves are warm and loving.Visit London sometime. It's a great city.
